F1 Star Loses Driving Licence |
|
According to Italian news agency sources, his driving licence was suspended on Sunday morning when police on the outskirts of Rome clocked him at dawn doing 148 km/h (95 mph) in a 60 km/h (35 mph) zone. The Renault F1 star admits he was wrong, but stresses he had a good excuse. "I was with my wife at a friend's house at 4.30 in the morning having left our son with his nanny, ? Fisichella explained. ?The boy had a bit of a temperature and an earache when we went out but nothing serious. But then the nanny called us to say that his temperature had shot up, that he was crying and calling for his mother and that she couldn't calm him down . We were so worried, we jumped into the car and tried to get home as quickly as possible." ![]() "I realise that even in such situations, one should never speed. I am truly sorry and realise that what I did was totally wrong," said Fisichella, who has won two grand prix races during his driving career. "I remain strongly committed to road safety," he added. Under Italian driving law, his driving license was automatically revoked until a court hearing. Fisichella finished fifth in the recently concluded Formula One season, having been affected by mechanical difficulties. However, he has called the 2005 season "the best of his career." |
